Né en Isère en 1903, Pierre Pelloux suit une formation artistique à l’Ecole des Beaux Arts de Lyon de 1920 à 1926 où il suit les cours du mystique Auguste Morisot. Il voyage ensuite en Italie où la découverte des maîtres italiens du quattrocento et de l'œuvre de Piero della Francesca s’avère déterminante. Sa peinture devient davantage contemplative, la narration est absente. Simplifiant les formes et les couleurs, l’artiste voit dans le dépouillement la représentation de l’essence des choses. Il représente objets et figures dans leur frontalité, créant ainsi des atmosphères mystérieuses et impénétrables.

Dans notre tableau peint en 1962, l’artiste représente Denise Clere née Cuilleret (1937-2022) sur un élégant fond vert. Entre la stylisation du modèle et l’extrême sobriété du fond, la figure s’impose avec un hiératisme hors du temps.

Born in Isère in 1903, Pierre Pelloux studied art at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon from 1920 to 1926, where he took classes with the mystical artist Auguste Morisot. He then traveled to Italy, where his discovery of the Italian masters of the Quattrocento and the work of Piero della Francesca proved to be a defining influence. His painting became more contemplative, with narrative elements absent. By simplifying forms and colors, the artist saw in this minimalism the representation of the essence of things. He depicted objects and figures in frontal view, thereby creating mysterious and impenetrable atmospheres.

In our painting from 1962, the artist depicts Denise Clere (née Cuilleret, 1937–2022) against an elegant green background. Between the stylization of the model and the extreme simplicity of the background, the figure stands out with a timeless solemnity.
